The Introduction to Nuclear Physics course, which is full of abstract and mathematical concepts, is still evaluated using conventional methods based on rote memorization (surface learning). In fact, a deep learning approach that emphasizes conceptual connections is far more relevant for assessing students’ competence in comprehending nuclear phenomena holistically. This study aims to develop and validate a test instrument to measure the achievement of deep learning in the Introduction to Nuclear Physics course, which is oriented toward producing high-caliber nuclear energy professionals. The study employs the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The indicators of deep learning achievement are based on the 6C skills (Character, Citizenship, Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, and Creativity). The instruments comprise three main components: a contextual essay test with a SOLO-based scoring rubric for the critical thinking and creativity dimensions; self-assessment and peer-assessment questionnaires for the character and citizenship dimensions; and a project rubric for the collaboration and communication dimensions. Data were collected through expert validation involving three experts and analyzed using Aiken’s V index. The results of the study show that the essay test instrument achieved very high validity (average V = 0.894), the questionnaire instrument achieved high validity (average V = 0.872), and the project rubric achieved high validity (average V = 0.792). All indicators exceeded the minimum threshold (V ≥ 0.60), confirming that these 6C-integrated instruments and SOLO-taxonomy-based rubrics are valid and suitable for use. These instruments can serve as tools to transform conventional assessment into competency-based evaluation aligned with national energy strategic objectives.
